I have made a Barnes and Noble run and I am unstoppable.
Because of obvious circumstances, the future of Spanish Club this semester is iffy. I'll probably be locked in my room for most of the semester, seeing as vaccines aren't even on the horizon yet, and so it's unlikely that I'll be able to attend any meetings for SC (if they're even happening as of now).
But fear not, aficionados del espaƱol, I have a solution to counteract the rust that will inevitably start to accumulate on my Spanish: reading books.
Now, I hear you—But Spencer, you say, how will simply reading be an effective substitute for the spoken language portion of language learning that in-person activities provide?
To which I say: It won't but come on, man. This is a really uncertain time and we're all just doing our best with what we have.
Besides. I've read these books (Harry Potter y la Piedra Filosofal is also being shipped my way) and so they'll be easier to swallow since I've got an idea of what's happening. The most important thing is to keep Spanish bouncing around in my brain until I can get back into a class setting and start speaking it with my peers again.
For now, it appears that the OU Spanish Club (at least the Spencer version) will take place in my room, over a cup of coffee, with some good books. No risk of infection, only the risk of an infectiously good time.
If things change and I'm able to make it to an in-person event, I'll post an update.
